John Q. Canine, a former resident of this city, died at Venice, [Los Angeles County] Cal., January 23, according to a telegram received in this city by B.W. Wilhite. Mr. Canine was about seventy nine years of age and had lived here all of his life up to five years ago when he moved to California. He has a large number of relatives and friends in this city and for many years he was in the employ of the city. After his sons had moved to California he decided, at their earnest solicitation, to make his home on the coast himself. About a year ago his wife died and last summer he visited here for ten weeks, being the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ben W. Wilhite. He said that he had come east to say goodbye to his old friends. At that time he was very active and apparently in good health. During last month he had suffered with heart trouble and this eventually caused his death.
