Albert W. CANINE, 75 of 334 Hominy Lane, Lafayette, died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday in Home Hospital at Lafayette. He had been hospitalized since Nov 19 and had been ill for 3 months. A native of Crawfordsville, he attended Willson and Mount Zion Elementary schools and graduated from Crawfordsville HS in 1933. He received his bachelor's degree from Butler University in 1947 and his masters from there in1 949. He served in the Army during World War II and was a stretcher bearer in the Battle of the Bulge and played in the Army Band. A retired school teacher he taught for a total of 26 years at Ladoga, Ambia and Rossville. He retired from school teaching in 1972 and worked for the Purdue University Grounds Department for 5 years, retiring in 1977. His memberships included Trinity United Methodist Church at Lafayette and the Homebuilders Sunday School class. Mr. Canine was born Sept 22, 1912 at Crawfordsville to Ollie R. and Cinderella MILLER Canine. He married Martha C. KULP on October 23, 1948 at Lebanon, PA. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gregory (Meri) RAY of Lafayette and Mrs. John (Lucy) KAMSTRA of Bloomington; two sons, Jon of Carmel and Larry of Lafayette; two sisters, Naomi Canine and Margaret FLOWERS, both of Lafayette; a brother, Ralph of West Lafayette; and 7 grandchildren. A brother, Paul J. Canine preceded him in death in 1986. Services are set for 1 p.m. Friday in Soller-Baker Chapel at Lafayette with the Rev. Dr. Gary L. Forbes and Jon Canine officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Masonic Cemetery South at Crawfordsville. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Endowment Fund at Lafayette. -- kbz
