Harold E. "Red" Campbell, 57, a former Crawfordsville resident, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette at 7:50 p.m. Monday. He had become ill at his home and entered the hospital at 6:45 that same evening. Mr. Campbell had been employed in the maintenance division of TRW Ross Gear in Lafayette for the past 12 years. Prior to that he had been employed at Alcoa. He had been in the Army for 22 years and served in both the Pacific and European theatres during World War II. He had served with the National Guard at Darlington and Lafayette. Mr. Campbell was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in West Lafayette, Masonic Lodge 492, F&AM, at Lafayette, American Legion Post 342 of Rossville and the United Auto Workers Union. He was born July 28, 1914 at Crawfordsville, the son of Charles and Zina Harris Campbell. He attended Crawfordsville schools. Mr. Campbell married Martha V. Keesee June 24, 1939, and they moved to Lafayette in 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include the widow; a sister, Mrs. James G. (Jane) Pickering of Lafayette and a brother, William Charles Campbell of Lafayette. Friends may call at the Hippensteel Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hippensteel Chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Othar Smith officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. There will be military graveside rites given by American Legion Post 352 of Rossville. Masonic rites will be conducted at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home by Lodge 492, F&AM.--waw
