THORNTOWN — W. Lee Caldwell, 82, longtime resident of the Thorntown community, died Tuesday afternoon near his home at 117 W. Plum St. Mr. Caldwell suffered a heart attack. The deceased, a Montgomery County native, had been a resident of Thorntown for nearly all his life. He served with the Army in France during World War I and was a member of Thorntown American Legion Post 218 and the Thorntown World War I Barracks. Mr. Caldwell had been employed by Russell & Hitch Funeral Home for the last 15 years. Many years ago, he worked for the Graves Livery Barn, and more recently the Thorntown Serum Co., and the State Highway. He was a member of the Thorntown Christian Church. Born on June 16, 1886, he was the son of Charles and Melissa Caldwell. He was married to Ethel Titus who survives. Other survivors include a son, Donald Lee Caldwell of Lebanon; a daughter, Mrs. Helen C. Williams of Thorntown; a grandson, whom the couple reared, Richard Lee Caldwell, and five other grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Albert, on Feb. 21, 1960, and three sisters. Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Russell & Hitch Funeral Home in Thorntown with Revs. Don Hainer and J. D. Blake in charge. Burial will be in Bethel Hill Cemetery.
