Darlington - Harley Newell Cain, 76, a life resident of this community, was found dead in his home Thursday night by Town Marshal Skip Crull, who was called when neighbors noticed no lights or chimney smoke. County Coroner Russell Powers said he had taken his own life. Self-employed, Mr. Cain had attended Darlington schools and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church. A son of Charles Franklin and Ella Jane Best Cain, he was born Oct 27, 1896. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Ruby Holladay of Darlington and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Cain and three brothers, Bert, Edward and LeRoy Cain. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Burkhart Funeral Home here with Rev. Darnel Pickell officiating and burial in Darlington IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Sunday. - kbz
