Crawfordsville, Ind July 8 – Charles E. Butler, 73 years old, retired Montgomery County farmer who was identified prominently with the Republican Party many years died today at his home here. A native of Montgomery County, Mr. Butler was born March 7, 1866 near Crawfordsville, the early years of his life being spent on the farm. After attending county schools, he attended Wabash College, where he was a member of the class of 1888. In addition to his political activities, Mr. Butler also was well known as a civic and church leader.  Surviving are the widow, Hallie Mount Butler, daughter of former Governor James A. Mount; a son, Everett Butler of this city and two daughters, Mrs. Lois Lippert of Muncie and Mrs. Gladys Abbott of near Crawfordsville. – kbz

Crawfordsville, Ind July 8 – Charles E. Butler, age 73, prominent retired farmer with large agricultural interests died at his home here early today after an extended illness. Before coming to Crawfordsville 30 years ago he lived on a farm near Darlington. Mr Butler married Miss Hallie Mount, daughter of former Governor James A. Mount, also a Montgomery County pioneer citizen in Oct 1888 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Butler, long prominent in Republican politics, was formerly an elder in the Presbyterian Church here and at Darlington. The widow, a son, Everett Butler and two daughters, Mrs. Lois Butler Lippert, of Muncie and Mrs. Gladys Butler Abbott of Mace survive. Dr. WA Millis, president emeritus of Hanover College will have charge of funeral services in Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church here Monday at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Oakhill (sic) cemetery. - kz
