Mrs. Bessie L. Haffner, 60, Shady Lane, died at 9:15 pm. Monday in Culver Hospital of multiple injuries suffered in a head-on auto collision last Tuesday afternoon on Ind. 32 six miles west of Crawfordsville. Mrs. Haffner, wife of Dr. C. O. Haffner, was the second victim of the accident to die. Also fatally injured was Miss Mary Cletus Burk, 47, Rt. 1, Hillsboro, driver of the car with which the auto driven by Mrs. Haffner collided. Both had been alone in their cars. Mrs. Haffner was born Jan. 22, 1896, at Saybrook, Ill., a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Coffman Fisher. She married Dr. Haffner at Geneva Dec. 11, 1915. He survives with one son, Dr. Leon W. Haffner of Woodbridge, N. J.; four daughters, Mrs. James R. Cox of Silver City, N. C., Miss Jeanne Haffner of Crawfordsville, and Miss Diane and Miss Phyllis Haffner, both at home; a brother, Roy Fisher of Indianapolis, and two grandchildren. A son, three sisters and five brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Haffner was a member of the First Christian Church and the Athens Chapter of OES. A resident of this city since 1923 Mrs. Haffner had been associated with her husband in his profession for the past 34 years. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, Rev. Paul Million officiating, and interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery at Portland, Ind. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the services. Friends may call at the Russell E. Brown Mortuary after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
