William L. Burkett, 80, of 900 S. Washington St died at 6:24 a.m. Thursday in Culver Hospital. He had retired from RR Donnelley & Sons Co in 1976. Mr. Burkett had served in the Army during WWII. He was a member of the 1st Christian Church where he had been a deacon and of Elks Lodge and Sr. Champs at Bank one. He was born March 10, 1916 at Ladoga to Lee I and Salome Ann Fendley Burkett. He married Ellen Cooper July 21, 1941 in Montgomery Co. She died in 1980. Surviving is a son, William L, Jr. of Redondo Beach, Calif, a brother, Marvin of Ladoga; a sister, Letha Olivian Chamness of Crawfordsville and two grandsons. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m Sunday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home at Crawfordsvilel with Rev. Frank Everett officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, at Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Saturday.
I loved Gpa' Burkett as we called him - I miss he & his dear, dear wife, Ellen. GREAT people (KZ) and Ellen started me in genealogy.
