Wingate - Mrs. Mary H. Burk, 88, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County died Thursday morning at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Newton Kelsey, Wingate. She had been ill six weeks. Born May 12, 1864, at Whitesville, Mrs. Burk was the daughter of Jerry and Martha Mitchell (sic - Jerry - Jeremiah Douglas and Martha Jane Mitchell - this is misleading as it looks like Mary's maiden name is Mitchell but Martha's is - KZ). She married George W. Burk of near New Market September 3, 1884. She was a member of the old United Brethren Church near New Market. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Clara Kelsey, Wingate; Mrs. Pearl Hicks, New Market; Mrs. ALice Fletcher, Indianapolis; Mrs. Cora Hicks, Hoopeston, Ill and Mrs. Bertha Woodard, Linnsburg; four sons, John Burk, Hillsboro; Jerry Burk, Crawfordsville; George and Willie Burk, Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Wingate Christian Church. Burial in Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Rev. John Servies assisted by Rev. Warren Braden of the Wingate Christian Church will officiate. Friends may call at the home of the daughter in Wingate after 3 p.m. Friday.   –-- kbz

Mrs. Mary H. Burk, 88, a lifelong resident of Montgomery County died Thursday Feb 12 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Newton Kelsey of Wingate after a six weeks illness. Included among the survivors four sons is John Burk, Hillsboro. Other survivors are five daughter, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wingate Christian Church with services conducted by Rev. John Servies assisted by Rev. Warren Braden of the Wingate Christian Church. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery in Crawfordsville.   –-- kbz
