J. Russell Burk, 44, an employee of the California Pellet Mill, died suddenly Monday morning after being taken ill while at work at the company plant. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Culver Hospital. A native of the Yountsville community, Mr. Burk was born June 19, 1913, the son of John F. and Eva Lanham Burk. He married Dorothy McCarty in Crawfordsville in April 1935. Mr. Burk attended grade school in Montgomery County. He was graduated from the Hillsboro High School. Following graduation he engaged in farming for a few years in the Hillsboro community. Mr. Burk moved to Crawfordsville in 1942. He was employed at the Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis from 1942 until 1945. Later he worked for the Armco Co. Mr. Burk was a member of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church and the Men's Sunday School class of the church. He also was a member of the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge, Athens Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, Knights Templar, White Shrine, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Miller, Rt. 6, Crawfordsville; a son, David F. Burk, at home; the father, a brother, Alfred Burk of Crawfordsville; a sister, Miss Cletus Burk of Hillsboro; a granddaughter, six uncles and six aunts. His mother died Feb. 8, 1957. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bright Funeral Home. Burial will be at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Rev. John DeKruyter, pastor of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church, will be the officiating minister. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Tuesday. - kbz

Mr. Burk was a member of the Wabash Ave. Presbyterian Church and Men’s Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Hillsboro Masonic lodge; Athens Chapter OES; Knights Templar, White Shrine, Scottish Rite & Murat Shrine. Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Miller, Crawfordsville RR 6; a son, David Burk, at home; the father; a brother, Alfred Burk of Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Cletus Burk of Hillsboro; a granddaughter. Funeral services were held Wed, March 26, in the Bright Funeral Home. Burial was held in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery, Rev. John DeKruyter, pastor of the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church was officiating minister. - kbz
