The terrible shroud of death cast its gloom over Monitor on Thursday Feb 2, 1905 at 3 o'clock when the spirit of Mrs. Alex Brookshire took its flight to the great beyond. Although expected for 3 months her friends have looked with anguish and sorrow upon the slow but certain fate that was entering her life. Still when the dreaded moment came all bowed in grief to know they had been separated from one so dear to them. She was ever awake to great interest, always ready to do her part and upbuilding of her home she loved so well. She did with her might what her hands found to do and the ministration of the loving wife and mother will be sadly missed in their saddened home.
Mrs. Brookshire's maiden name was Martha Auman, the daughter of John Auman. She was born in Randolph County, North Carolina in March 1851. Her death was due to cancer. She leaves a husband, one son and a twin sister, Mrs. Kate Keife, living at Linden, also a sister living in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Thomas Keife; two brothers who live at Hitesville, Zel and James Auman; two brothers at Darlington, William and Lafe, and Demps Auman now living in NC. Her funeral was held at the Methodist Church at Ladoga of which she became a member early in life. Her remains were laid to rest in the Ladoga Cemetery.
