ADA CREECH BRYANT

Source: Tri-County News, Waveland, IndianaSept 12, 1957

A tractor mishap brought death to a Parke County woman, Ada BRYANT, 36 and mother of 8 children. Mrs. Bryant, who lived on a farm near Byron in Howard Twp in NE Parke Co, was driving a tractor which was pulling a wagon load of corn. As she attempted to enter a field, the tractor overturned, crushing her beneath it. As the tractor turned over, the wagon became uncoupled and rolled on down the road a short distance before striking a tree. Three of Mrs. Bryant's daughters who were riding in the wagon were unhurt. An Indianapolis man, Herschel Miller, who has a fishing cabin near the scene of the accident heard the crash and immediately went to investigate. Then he and another neighbor, William Wendell, took the injured woman to Dr. Rusk in Wallace who treated her for shock and sent her to Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. She died in the hospital about 4:20 Saturday afternoon about 3 hours after the accident occurred. Dr. Rusk reported that Mrs. Bryant suffered acute shock, several broken ribs, a broken right arm, punctured lung and dislocated heart and lungs. Mrs. Bryant had been operating the 90-acre farm while her husband, Kenneth worked at RR Donnelley Co. in Crawfordsville. Marks at the scene indicated that the tractor turned over twice, rolling clear of Mrs. Bryant on the second turn, after she had apparently lost control of the vehicle while attempting to cross the ditch. Dr. Fred Blix, Ladoga, Montgomery County Coroner, listed cause of death as a crushed right side and massive hemorrhage. Mrs. Bryant was born in Murdock, Ill Jan 30, 1921, daughter of Lee and Emma Swanner Creech. She was married to Mr. Bryant in 1942. Their children range in age from 13 years to six months. The body was removed from the Woodrow Funeral home in Kingman to a funeral home in London, Ky where services were held Tuesday. - kbz
