This community suffered another shock when the word came on Sunday afternoon that Mrs. Pauline Russell Browne had passed away at a family reunion of the Groves family at the home of Mrs. Rilla Stockdale near Wingate. She had just finished playing, "God Be With You 'til We Meet Again," and had commenced playing 'Come to the Church in the Wildwood' when the fatal seizure came. Those watching her says that her left hand dropped to her side but the right hand continued to manipulate the keys for a few moments when she fell forward against the piano and to the floor. Death was instantaneous. She was the daughter of Dr. Joseph P. and Mrs. Mary E. Penn Russell and was born in the two story house on West Main Street now owned by Frank Kritz but long known as the Russell house. She was the youngest of 8 children, all of whom are now dead, the brothers, David and John Q dying as she did without any warning. She had a brilliant mind and was an accomplished musician. For years she was the organist at the Christian Church here of which Dr. Russell was one of the pioneer members. For a number of years she had charge of the great pipe organ in the church at Zion City. She was the author of a number of musical compositions. Funeral services were held at the Hunt & Ratcliff Funeral Home in Crawfordsville on Tuesday afternoon. Burial here in Maple Cemetery. At the time of her death she was a member of the Crawfordsville Christian Church. - typed by kbz
