The body of Pfc. Earl Brown, of New Richmond, who gave his life in the fighting in Korea last Sept. 10, is due to arrive in Crawfordsville over the Big Four railroad Friday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock (CDT) Sunday afternoon at the Proffitt and Sons Funeral home, with the New Richmond post of the American Legion to conduct military rites at the graveside in the New Richmond cemetery. The ship carrying Pfc. Brown's body and those of 419 other Korean war dead arrived in San Francisco May 24. Pfc. Brown, a brother of Mrs. Iva Reamer, of New Richmond, made his home with his sister in New Richmond before entering service. Born in Kentucky in 1923, Pfc. Brown moved to Indiana at the age of 15 years following the death of his parents. While making his home with his sister he worked for a time at the Forrest Patton farm, southeast of New Richmond. Pfc. Brown enlisted in the Army in 1948. He was sent overseas in January, 1949, for duty in Japan. Service in Korea began in June, 1950, with an infantry unit. Surviving, besides Mrs. Reamer, are two other sisters, Miss Carria Brown, of New Richmond, and Ernestine Struck, of Harvey, Ill., and two brothers, Denton Brown and Al Brown, both living in Illinois.
Funeral services for Pfc. Earl Brown will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Proffitt & Sons Funeral home. The body of Pfc. Brown, killed Sept. 10 while fighting in Korea, was to arrive here Friday afternoon. The New Richmond American Legion post will conduct military services at the graveside in New Richmond. The soldier made his home at New Richmond for a several years. Just prior to his enlistment in the army in 1948, he had been employed by General Mills in Chicago. The survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Iva Reamer and Miss Carvie Brown, of New Richmond, and Mrs. Ernestine Struck, of Harvey, Ill., and two brothers, Al Brown, of Menard, Ill., and Denton Brown, of Omaha, Neb. New Richmond — Funeral services for Pfc. Earl Brown were held at the Proffitt & Sons Funeral home in Crawfordsville Sunday afternoon, with Todd Post 458 of the American Legion in New Richmond conducting military rites at the graveside in the New Richmond cemetery. Rev. Thomas Terry was the officiating minister. Members of Todd post also assisted at the rites as pallbearers and flower bearers. Those who served in this capacity were Byron Alexander, Thomas Nesbitt, Lawrence Gamble, Lester Olin, Daryl Olin and Frank Todd. Mrs. Henley Breaks and Mrs. Nancy McClamroch sang "Does Jesus Care" and "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." They were accompanied by Mary June Cunningham. Pfc. Brown, a former resident of New Richmond, was killed in the fighting in Korea. His body arrived at the Proffitt & Sons Funeral home in Crawfordsville June 8. A native of Kentucky, Pfc. Brown made his home with a sister, Mrs. Iva Reamer, of New Richmond, before entering service. - kbz
