Charles E. Brown, 84, 508 Union St., Crawfordsville, died Tuesday morning at the Small Nursing Home in Waynetown where he had been a patient since last October. Mr. Brown was born Jan. 8, 1879, near Effingham, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade F. Brown. He married Della E. Henderson Jan. 1, 1901, in Effingham. She died March 10, 1962. The deceased moved to Montgomery County from Muncie and had been a resident of Crawfordsville the past 10 years. He was a member of thee Evangelical United Brethren Church. Surviving are eight daughters, Mrs. Joel Weir of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; Mrs. Naomi Schaible of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Arthur Staniforth of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Eddie Griggs of Muncie, Mrs. Frank Moran of Elgin, Ill., Mrs. Paul Burns and Mrs. William Hicks of Indianapolis, Mrs. Perry Thomas of Terre Haute and Miss Clara Brown of Fort Wayne; two sons, Paul Richard Brown of Greencastle and Charles E. Brown Jr. of Thorntown: a half-sister, Mrs. Ethel Beale of Effingham, Ill.; 38 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a daughter and two sons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bright Mortuary here in charge of Rev. John R. Servies. Burial will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery southwest of Crawfordsville. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Wednesday.
