Katherine (Catherine) Zachary Baldwin Brocies (also found often as Broach)

Katherine Zachary was born near Crawfordsville, December 23, 1840 and departed this life at the home of her son, Charles Baldwin, October 2, 1919, aged 78 years, 9 months, and 19 days. She was one of a family of seventeen children, six of whom are now living. She was married to Robert Baldwin in 1858 and to this union was born six children, Elijah, who died in infancy; Harvey, who died in 1910; Charles of Barnett, Mo.; William of Marshall; Mrs. Mollie Warren, of Columbus, O., and Thomas, of Bloomington. Mr. Baldwin passed away in 1872, after which she remained a widow until 1876 when she was united in marriage to Jacob Broach. No children were born to this union, but she was the mother of five stepchildren. She and her husband united with the Methodist Church at Mt. Tabor which faith she held until her death. They moved to Shannodale in 1892 and continued to reside there until his death in 1908, when she made her home with her son, Thomas. August 6, she with her grandson, Harvey Baldwin, went to Missouri on a visit and it was during this visit that she was stricken with paralysis, which caused her death. Besides the immediate family she is survived by six brothers, Samuel Zachary of Ladoga, Milton of Waveland; John, Alvin and Red of Crawfordsville, and Jamison of Terre Haute; seventeen great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Shannondale Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Frost. Internment was at Shannondale cemetery. - kbz
