James K son of James and Elizabeth Britton was born in Owensboro, KY Nov 17, 1845. He became an orphan in early childhood, his mother dying when he was only a few hours old, and his father when he was 9. He then came to Indiana where he was reared in the home of relatives. In 1870 he married Miss Minerva J. Davis of North Salem. To them were born 5 children: Ina Catherine and Benjamin, deceased; Charles E of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Mary A. Clark of Waveland and William of Detroit. During the Spanish American War his son, Frank enlisted in the Indiana Volunteers and contracted tyhpoid fever which caused his death. His little son, Harry aged 4 was brought up in his grandafther's home as an own child. Mr. Britton's early life was spent on farms in Hendricks and Montgomery Countise and latterly near Russellvile from where he removed to Waveland where he lived in the house now occupied by Harry Selby and drove the Standard Oil wagon. He moved from here to Crawfordsville where he was employed by the Wire & Nail Mill for 13 years, until compelled by increasing infirmities to retire from active life. A little over a year ago he and Mrs. Britton came here to make their home iwth Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Clark. For a long time he had suffered from leakage of the heart and this became much worse about 6 months ago. He united with the Church of Christ at North Salem when a young man, later transferring his membership to Crawfordsville. He was also a member of the North Salem Lodge of Odd Fellows. Mr. Britton had the tenderest affection for little children bereft of their parents, especially those deprived of a mother's love. To these he extended kindly assistance. He was a helpful neighbor a loyal friend and a lifelong and earnest Christian. In hispassing, his relatives, neighbors and friends have indeed lost a true, honest and conscientious man. God gave him an excellent companion, a worthy helpmeet. Those left to mourn are the aged wife, 3 children, six grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He saw the end approaching and welcomed it, looking to the future with ho9pe and confidence. His death occurred on Sunday afternoon at half past 3, making his age 74 years 8 months 7 days. Funeral services at th ehome on Tuesday afternoon were conducted by Rev. Olin S. Stewart. Interment at Oak HIll Cemetery,Crawfordsville. Those present from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. John Page, Mrs. James Trotter, Mrs. Joe Bowen and Lonnie Davis of North Salem; Harry Britton and family; Charles Britton and family and Mrs. Grant Warren of Crawfordsville, and Will Britton of Detoit, Michigan. - kbz

James K. Britton, 75 years old, died yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. EH Clark of Waveland. He had been in ill health for four years, and death was due to heart disease.

He was born in Owensboro, KY on November 17, 1845, and the son of James and Elizabeth Britton. On December 11, 1870, he was married to Minerva J. Davis. For a number of years, Mr. Britton was engaged in farming in Montgomery and Hendricks County. He was employed by the Crawfordsville Wire & Nail Company for 13 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ and North Salem Odd fellows lodge.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, William Britton of Detroit, Charles Britton of Crawfordsville and a daughter, Mrs. EH Clark of Waveland. Also six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the residence of Mrs. EH Clark in Waveland Tuesdy at 2 o'clock. Interment at Oak Hill - kbz
