Charles M. Bratton, prominent retired farmer of this city, passed away at his home, 808 west Main street, at 8 o'clock Saturday morning, Nov. 21, 1925, of paralysis, after an illness of two months. He was born in Montgomery county, near Crawfordsville, Sept. 18, 1856, the son of Charles and Catherine Bratton, and was 69 years, two months and 3 days of age at the time of his death. He was one of ten children all of whom have preceded him in death but three, one sister, Mrs. Jane Ward of Cass County, Ind. and two brothers, Harve B. and O. W. Bratton , near Linnsburg, Ind. He was married to Lydia E. Loop of Mace on Jan. 30, 1878, and to this union four children were born, Herman A., Edison W., Inez O. Mulliken and Roscoe L. His wife preceded him in death in 1914 and his daughter in 1924. He is survived by eight grandchildren. Mr. Bratton was well known throughout the county, having lived in and near this city all his life. He moved to Crawfordsville in 1910, where he resided until his death. In early life he united with the First Presbyterian Church and later transferred his membership to Trinity M. E. Church of this city, where he was a member at the time of his death and was a member of the official board. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias. August 5, 1915, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Hirst of this city, who survives him. Funeral services were held at Trinity M. E. Church at 2 p.m. Monday, conducted by Rev. F. G. Howard and the remains were conveyed to Mace for burial.
