JOHN BOYER

Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Feb 1, 1916

John Boyer, seventy-three years old, sent to Michigan City prison from this city three years ago when he pleaded guilty to a charge growing out of the confession of a number of little girls, died Monday at the prison after a brief illness with the grip. The body will be brought to this city, probably Wednesday or Thursday and will be buried in Oak Hill cemetery. There will be no funeral services but a short service will be held at the grave. Mr. Boyer's only surviving relative is a sister living in Darlington. The deceased lived in Crawfordsville and this county during most of his life and during his younger days was a respected citizen. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in the eighty-sixth Indiana regiment and served throughout the conflict. Officers of that regiment said he was a good soldier. During recent years he had lived alone in this city, drawing a pension from the government. Men who had known him for years declared that his mind was weakened when he committed the crimes for which he was sentenced. A message announcing Mr. Boyer's death was received here Monday afternoon and a friend at once made arrangements for the body to be brought here. - thanks so much to Kim H
