When but 9 years of age his mother was called to her eternal home leaving th eyoung lad in the care of the father until some three years later when the father again married to give his family the care of a mother. In January of 1881 during a protracted meeting the boy Jacob gave his life into the hands of the Master of Men. He had felt the urge of doing so at the age of 7 but was too timid and was not encouraged by those about him. In the year 1883 a college was begun and built near Campbellsburg and here he started to school in September 1883 and went regularly for 3 years graduating in May 1886. In September 1886 he started to school at Center College Danville, KY where he continued until graduating four years later - June 1890 with the honor of one third part of the Ormond Beatty Senior Prize for scholarship and deportment. He taught school during the winter of 1890 and 1891. And on June 24, 1891 he was married to Miss Olive Ford of Sulphur, KY. A few years later a daughter, Claudine came to share their happiness. In September 1891 he with his wife went to Danville, Kentucky and entered the Danville Theological Seminary. Here they remained for two years and then going to Princeton Theological Seminary at Princeton, NJ. Here they completed their theological studies and he was gradauted in May of 1894 taking the Scribner essay prize. He was licensed June 12 and ordained to the ministery of the Gospel on June 25, 1894 in the Warren Memorial Presbyterian Church of Louisville, KY by the Presbytery of Louisville. Thus was carried out the dying wish of his mother that he be her preacher son. After his ordination he became Stated Supply of the PResbyterian Church of Cowgill, MO. His regular pastorates were: Oceola, MO; Holden MO: Cook Ave now Westminster of St. Louis Mo; 3rd Prebyterian Church, Louisville; 2nd Presbyterian Church ( now united with the First ) of Madison IN Waveland and Flora, Ind, having served in the Presbytery of Crawfordsville for 11 years. While pastor at Madison he was elected a trustee of Hanover College from which he received the degree of Dr of Divinity in June 1915. He was 5 times a Commissioner to the General Assemboy of the Presbyterian Church USA and held other important positions in the several Presbyteries in which he was located. He leave the following loved ones, the faithful and beloved wife, the daughter Mrs. Earl Wright of Philadelphia, PA the little grandson, James Boyer Wright; 3 brothers, Wililiam A and Sanford M of Campbellsburg Ky and Dr. George R of Peoria Ill and an uncle, Dr. I.N. Brent of Crawfordsville, Ind. Dr. Boyer in his pastorates was always the sympathetic pastor in the sick room and in the bereaved home. He had the capacity of meeting people on the street whether of his church or not; always faithful to his people with time for the little children. The esteem in which he was held by his people was manifested in the Sunday School session of yesterday when the period was devoted to a memorial service with thought centering about the verse, "How long hait ye between two opinions?" While Dr Boyer never sought to force his opinions upon others, he was always firm in his belief and faithful to the great Master of Men." - transcribed by kbz
