Thomas J. BORAKER

Thomas J. BORAKER died this morning at 3 at the home of his adopted daughter, Mrs. Wallace WHALEN, 112 W. Spring St., of dropsy after an illness of 5 weeks. He was b. in Crawfordsville Oct 6, 1854, the son of William and Mary J. Boraker. He was probably one of the most widely known men in Crawfordsville, as he lived here continuously and for 25 years he was employed at the court house 8 years as engineer and the remainder as janitor. Three years ago he accepted the position of janitor of the 1st national & Citizens Banks, which he was holding at the time of his death. He was a man with a keen sense of honor and a man of no little business ability. As a result of constant labor and careful living he was able to lay up his wages little by little until at the time of his death he owned several residence properties. His late home was on Ky. street just north of town. But on account of his sickness he was making his home for the winter with his daughter that he might be close to his work. About 11 years ago he united with the Christian Church. Funeral services at the home of Mrs. Walter Whalen 112 W. Spring Street at two on Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Walter Mansell. Burial at Oak Hill. He was a brother of Mrs. NR Swan; Mrs. Janie Jones and IJ Boraker. No children came to bless his home except the adopted daughter at whose home he died. He was a staunch Republican and was for years active in the councils of this city. - kbz
