Gaylen Hamilton Blackford, 78, of 910 W. Main St., died at 6:50 p.m. Thursday at his home. He had been in failing health several months. Born July 11, 1882, in Waynetown, he was the son of James and Joan Underwood Blackford. He was twice married. His first marriage was to Pearl Kline, who preceded him in death. His second marriage was to Grace B. Smith. They were married here, Feb. 20, 1947. Mr. Blackford was a member of the Waynetown Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge. He graduated from Waynetown High School and Crawfordsville Business College. He was employed by the Ben Hur Life Assn. for 35 years. Survivors cinludre his wife; a stepdaughter, Ellen M. Rush of Crawfordsville; two stepgrandsons, James F. and Melvin A. Rush, both of Crawfordsville, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. (EST) Saturday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Poore of the Waynetown Baptist Church in charge. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Friday. - thanks Lena
