Mrs. Bessie K. Blacketer, longtime resident of Crawfordsville, died suddenly at 1:30 a.m. Monday at her home on Elmore Street, near the east edge of the city. Mrs. Blacketer, 81, had been a resident of Crawfordsville since 1929. Her husband, Charles, preceded her in death in May of 1954. The couple was married in Linden on Nov. 18, 1908. Born in Montgomery County on June 18, 1887, she was the daughter of James and Amanda Blue Vail. She was reared in the Linden community and attended schools there. The deceased was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Charles of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Douglas of Rt. 8, Mrs. Marguerite Brasfield of Rt. 1, Waveland, and Mrs. Mary VanCleave of Crawfordsville; 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters and two brothers. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Helms Funeral Chapel at Linden with Rev. Phil Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday. - jlr
