Mrs. Katherine Emma Black, 74, widow of Thomas A. Black, former Crawfordsville restaurant proprietor, died Sunday morning in Culver Hospital , where she had been a patient since April 8. Born May 29, 1883 in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Black was the daughter of David F. and Sarah Thompson. She married Mr. Black in November 1903. Mrs. Black attended the Crawfordsville schools. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Mrs. Black was associated with her husband in the restaurant business several years. During this period, Mr. and Mrs. Black, and a nephew, Tommy Kummings, Crawfordsville businessman, operated restaurants in the 100 and 200 blocks of East Main Street. Their first restaurant, the French Tea Room, was in the room now occupied by the Crawfordsville Paint & Wallpaper Store. Later they operated the Crawford Cafe in the Crawford Hotel building and the Black Cafe in the 100 block of East Main Street. Surviving, besides the nephew, are a sister, Mrs. Daisy Warren of Muncie; two grand-nephews, John Snyder Kummings and Wil1iam K. Kummings, and a grand- niece, Mary Kummings. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday in the Hunt and Son Funeral Home, with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p. m.
