Mrs. Balsora Green BISHOP, beloved mother of John, Virgil and Alice Green, Mrs. Frank Maquess, Mrs. A. Dunwoody, Mrs. Claud Surber and Mrs. A. Kassul and daughter of James P. and Elizabeth VanHook, departed this life at her late home, 814 Danville Avenue, Crawfordsville, March 9, 1932 at 10:30 p.m. at age 77 Y 7M 14D. Stricken with heart trouble in February of last year, Mrs. Bishop made a valiant fight to regain her health and while at times, it seemed that she might recover, the past few weeks disclosed a pronounced decline in her condition. Although members of her family and countless devoted friends were told that death was momentarily expected, all clung to the hope that she might yet be spared. Mrs. Bishop had been up and around the house all day and retired for the night about 10 o´clock. She was immediately seized with a heart attack, the doctor was summoned and she passed out within 20 minutes. She put up a brave fight, but her frail little body could stand no more and as she had told a daughter a few days previous, "I am going home soon to sleep with Jesus,' she fulfilled her promise. Within the past few months she had often told her family, 'My work is done.' She sometimes added, "But everyone wants to live as long as one can.' She was devoted to her children - a patient, tender, loving mother, a kind and ready neighbor and a true, loyal and faithful friend. She endeared herself to the people of the community in which she lived by her devotion and her solicitude for those less fortunate than she. She lived that she might bring happiness and comfort to others. To do a good deed was her goal. The deceased was born in Eubanks, Pulaski Co, Ky on July 25, 1854, where she lived and grew to young womanhood. On May 3, 1877, she was united in marriage to Andrew J. Green of Rockcastle Co, KY to which union were born 9 children. One daughter died in infancy and one son, Milford Doolin Green died Nov 1, 1916. 7 children above named, one brother, J. C. VanHook survive. Mr. Green departed this life on Sept. 18, 1920 at the age of 71 years. Three sisters and three brother also preceded her in death. In April 1922, the deceased was united in marriage to Andrew C. Bishop of the city, where they resided until the death of Mr. Bishop on Feb 11, 1928. Besides the 7 children to mourn her loss, there are 21 grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives. Last rites for the deceased were held at the home on Sunday March 13 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. BE Antrobus in charge. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pall bearers were relatives of Mrs. Bishop. The flower bearers all grandchildren of the deceased were Theda Faust; Virginia, Barbara and Anne Green, Lorene and Edith Marquess, Fay Cheny and Mary Agnes Dunwoody.
