Arthur John Birge, formerly of Crawfordsville, died Sunday at a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., hospital where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Birge, 86, left Crawfordsville last fall and took up residence with a son, Alva. The deceased, a retired carpenter, lived here for 20 years, and in Hillsboro for 30 years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church here. Born on Feb. 21, 1882, in Tompkinsville, Ky., he was the son of Henry and Nancy Birge. Surviving besides the son of Ft. Lauderdale, are three other sons, Roscoe and George of Champaign, Ill., and William, also of Ft. Lauderdale, and three daughters, Mrs. Orville Terry of Indianapolis, Mrs. Thomas Spring of Columbia, S.C., and Mrs. Harold Weliver of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by three brothers, George, William and James, and three sisters. Services are pending at the Hunt & Son Funeral Home. - typed by Chris M.
