JAMES C. BENSON

Source: Crawfordsville Review Saturday 1-1-1916

Those relatives of James C. BENSON whose death was chronicled in the Review of Friday morning have spent years in the search of the man was told yesterday by Dr. Issenberger of Chicago who was in the city yesterday on his way to Indianapolis. Dr. Issenberger is a nephew of the deceased man. Mr. Benson was formerly a prosperous farmer and trader in Iowa. He was worth at one time $200,000. Failing in business, Benson went to other parts of the world and his relatives lost track of him. He was known to be a moneymaker and it was felt he would some day turn up with his fortunes retrieved. Dr. Issenberger was quartered at the Ramsey Hotel for the night. He little realized his kinsman had just died in a house on the same street in this city. Yesterday morning the Dr. went to the Porter Barber Shop on Green Street for a shave. While in the chair he heard a customer reading the notice of the death of the man. It was the name of the long lost man. Dr. Issenberger made haste to go to the Market Street home. The identification was complete; the body was that of his once wealthy uncle of Iowa. The Dr. interested himself in seeing that the remains were properly shipped and notified relatives of the sad demise of the once influential and wealthy man. - kbz
