Mrs. Sarah Bennett, of New Market, Meets a Horrible Death Yesterday Morning Mrs. Sarah Ann Bennett, a lady eighty-two years old who resided in New Market, died at eleven o'clock yesterday morning at her home as a result of burns sustained at 7 o'clock. Mrs. Bennett had arisen and was washing her hands at a table near the stove in the kitchen. Her daughter had stepped to a neighbor's and the exact particulars of her mother's death will never be known. It is thought, however that the stove was red hot and that in leaning over her apron touched the stove and became ignited. The screams of the aged lady reached her daughter who came running into the house to see her mother a mass of flames. Bed clothes were hastily thrown around her and the fire extinguished but the burns had been so severe that when the clothes were removed the dress Mrs. Bennett had worn dropped off as did particles of her flesh. A physician was summoned but nothing could be done to alleviate her sufferings and she died in great agony at the time stated. Mrs. Bennett was a widow and she leaves several other married daughters, all of whom live in this county. Mrs. Mart Rice, of this city, is a sister of the deceased. The time of the funeral has not been determined. - thanks to Kim H for this one
