Elmer Bennett, 54 years old with rooms at 1914 Columbia Avenue was killed today at the William F. Johnson Lumber Yard at 19th Street and the LE&W Railroad when a heavy drop door fell on him.  Bennett, with JW Parker, Troy Mattox, Robert Naten and Lefty Miller fellow workmen were attempting to pull the door down when it became jammed over their heads. The door worked on pulleys and weight and had been raised and jammed in the grooves in which it operated. The combined efforts of the men suddenly released the door and jerked it from its weights. It fell with a sudden crashed. The four men jumped and escaped, Bennet slipped fell and was crushed.  Bennett's (sic) home was on a farm near Crawfordsville where he has two sons. He had been employed in Indianapolis for several weeks. Coroner Durham will hold an inquest. - kbz
