Crawfordsville – Services will be conducted Saturday for Carroll O. Beeson, a former Crawfordsville mayor and retired architect. Beeson died Tuesday at Culver Union Hospital. He was 89. Beeson served as mayor of Cawfordsville from 1952 to 1956. He also served 12 years as Montgomery County surveyor until his retirement in 1976. As an architect, Beeson designed more than 300 projects, including the Crawfordsville City Building, the Journal-Review newspaper building, the Boone County jail and the gymnasiums at Crawfordsville and Lebanon high schools. He was a past president of the Indiana Society of Architects. He was a Marine corps veteran of WWI and during WWII, Beeson joined the 14th Air Force Division in 1942 and traveled to China as an engineer with the Flying Tigers. After leaving active duty, Beeson joined the active reserved and retired as a Lt. Col in 1965. He was awarded the China War Memorial Medal. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Survivors include a daughter, two brothers, a sister, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Hunt and Son Funeral Home. – kbz

Crawfordsville – Former Mayor Carroll O. Beeson a retired architect who accomplished more than 300 projects in his career, died Tuesday in Culver Union Hospital at age 89. Beeson served as mayor of Crawfordsville from 1952-56. Beeson’s designs included the Crawfordsville City Building, the current Journal-Review newspaper building, Crawfordsville and Lebanon high school gyms, Boone County Jail and the arch at Marshall, Ind. He was a past president of the Indiana Society of Architects. He was a Marine Corps veteran of WWI and during WWII, Beeson joined the 14th AF Division in 1942 and traveled to China as an engineer with the Flying Tigers. After leaving active duty, Beeson joined the active reserves and retired as a Lt. Col. in 1965.
