Death of Henry Burkmyer (sic)
Henry Burkmyer died early this afternoon at the age of about sixty years. A cancer made its appearance on his face last Sept. and rapidly growing was the cause of his death. For the past few weeks he has been unable to take solid food. Henry Burkmyer was a German and is known throughout the County for his attachment to the late Reuben Taylor. In 1852 he began work for Mr. Taylor in Indianapolis. Later he was with him in Lafayette and then here at Crawfordsville. He became as a member of the family and when 1882, Reuben Taylor died he stayed with Mrs. Taylor until her death in 1888. Since then he has lived in the office of JW Cumberland, who has been very kind to him in his declining days. Three weeks ago he was taken to Mr. Cumberland's house where he died. Mrs. Jemima Labert, of Washington, DC daughter of Reuben Taylor, has been here for the last two weeks caring for the old man. The funeral will occur Wednesday at 9:30 under the auspices of the GAR of which he was a member. - kbz
