Beck - Ruth

Friday morning Ruth, the five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Beck, living half a mile south of Linnsburg, was playing in the ashes of a fire with her ten year old brother. She was sitting on the ground and was pouring the ashes into an old cartridge and it so happened that the edge of her dress rested in some coals of the fire, which was thought to have died out. Suddenly the child’s mother was startled to hear the children screaming and upon rushing into the yard discovered that the dress of the little girl was all on fire in the back. The mother did everything she could to extinguish the flames, burning her hands very badly. A physician was summoned and found that the little girl was very seriously burned across the back and kidneys. Everything possible was done to alleviate her sufferings but she lingered till 5 o’clock Saturday morning when death came to her relief. The child was a very bright little creature and the heart broken parents have the sincere sympathies of their friends in their terrible affliction. The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Mace Christian Church and interment was in the K. of P. Cemetery. -s
