Beck - Jennie Hefferman

Waynetown - Mrs. Jennie L. Beck, 97, widow of a Civil War veteran died at 12:25 o'clock Thursday morning at her home in Waynetown. She had been ill for the past 5 weeks with a heart ailment. She was one of the comparatively few Civil War veterans' widows surviving in Montgomery County. Mrs. Beck was born in Union County, Indiana May 14, 1853 the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hefferman. Her mother died when she was four months of age and she was reared in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walker. She was married Dec 23, 1869 to Daniel L. Beck of Mace. They came to reside on a farm near Waynetown in 1895. Mr. Beck died in 1897, two years later (note - this is incorrect - he died November 13, 1915). Six children of Mr. and mrs. Beck survive. They include two sons, John Beck of Waynetown and Charles Beck who lived with his mother in Waynetown and four daughters: Mrs. Emma Layman and Mrs. Dora Ingersoll, both of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Ida McClure of New Richmond and Mrs. Nina Wilkinson of Waynetown. There are also six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at the Baptist Church in Waynetown of which Mrs. Beck was long a member. Rev. Harvey S. Burns will be in charge of the funeral service. Burial will be in the Msonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Friends may call at the residence to pay their respects. - kbz
