Nathaniel Beatty, aged sixty-eight years, died Sunday morning at the family residence on Crawford street. His death was due to peritonitis. Last week, Mr. Beatty met with a peculiar accident which caused his death. He was working on Jefferson street and a fellow workman on a building was pitching down brick which Mr. Beatty was catching and piling. By some chance he failed to catch one brick and he was struck in the stomach, the injury thus inflicted bringing on peritonitis. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at half past two o'clock at the home. Dr. nave conducted the services and the interment was under the auspices of the G.A.R. and the pall bearers were members of Mr. Beatty's old company.
Nathaniel Beatty was born in Simpsonville, Kentucky, in 1833, and came to Crawfordsville in 1856, when a young man, and has made his home here ever since. He was married to Gertrude E. Snyder, oldest daughter of George W. Snyder, in 1857. By this union there were five children, four of whom are living, George William, Louis, Atwell, Margaret, Julia and Charles Thomas. At the outbreak of the civil war Mr. Beatty enlisted as a member of Company B, 120th Indiana, and served with the greatest credit throughout the struggle. He was a skilled carpenter and a man who had the esteem of all. His life was a very useful one and his kindly manners won everyone with whom he came in contact. – thanks to Kim H
