Bean - George
Crawfordsville Daily Journal 24 March 1909 p1
George Bean was standing in front of the Citizen’s National Bank Tuesday afternoon about 5 o’clock when he collapsed and fell to the brick pavement from the curb where he was standing on the edge of the walk. Those who saw him fall say he fell backwards with relaxed muscles with full force, the back part of his head striking the pavement. He died shortly afterward but whether from the effects of the blow on the head or not can not be told until the coroner holds an autopsy. The unfortunate man was picked up and was placed in Grimes’ laundry wagon and was taken to the city building where Dr. Karle Brown and Dr. JL Beatty made an examination directly afterward and stated that he was likely to die. His pulse was very feeble but steady indication that he had not fallen in a fit. He was then removed to the hospital department of the county jail where Dr. HW Sigmond was called. He stated that Bean had little chance of recovery but did all he could to resuscitate him. But in spite of all that could be done he died at 7:45. Shortly afterwards he was removed to the parlors of Hunt & Powell Funeral directors on north Green Street to await the action of George Ramsey of Whitesville, county coroner. The coroner came up from Whitesville this morning and after holding an inquest gave it as his verdict that Bean died from natural causes, probably apoplexy. The deceased leaves a widow, Mary I, two sons, Claude and Edgar and one daughter, Mrs. Jennie Douglass of this city and one daughter, Mrs. Eva Gee of Dundee, Mich; a brother, John and a sister, Mrs. Jane Booher of Advance, Joe of Stilesville and John of Indianapolis were also brothers and Mrs. Anna Ross of Lebanon was a sister. The funeral will occur at the home of his son, 710 S Mills Street at 1- on Thursday and will be conducted by Rev. CH Wilson pastor of Center Church. Burial will take place at Providence cemetery in Boone County, near Advance. The deceased lived near Advance before moving here several years ago. – thanks to S
