Darlington - Fred Earl Barley, 73 a farmer in the Garfield community most of his life, died Wednesday night at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. He underwent major surgery Tuesday after having been ill since July. Born NOv 28, 1878, at the old Barley home in Garfield, Mr. Barley was the son of Peter A. and Ellen Clark Barley. He married Glena Pickrell of Garfield Sept 29, 1909. Mr. Barley was a member of the Darlington Maosnic Lodge and IOOF. He retired from farming two years ago and had made his home in Darlington since. Surviving are the widow, two sisters, Miss Mae Barley and Mrs. Carl Clark, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Glen H. Barley, Garfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Roy Barley. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday from the Smith Funeral Home, Darlington. Burial will be at the Darlington IOOF Cemetery, Rev. Ernest Treber of the Congregational Christian Church will officiate. Maonic rites at the graveside.   ---kbz

Darlington – Fred Earl Barley, 73, Darlington, died at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, where he was admitted Sunday evening and underwent emergency surgery.  He was a retired farmer. Born south of Garfield, he lived there most of his life.  He was married to Glenn Pickrell in 1909 and was a member of the Masonic and IOOF Lodges.  Survivors besides his widow are two sisters, Miss Mae Barley and Mrs. Carl Clark, both of Crawfordsville.   ---kbz
