Bayless - Lydia Miles

Lydia Ellen Miles was b. June 9, 1862 and succumbed to that dread disease, consumption on Feb. Feb 18, 1910 aged 47 years 8 months and 9 days. She was united in marr. to Lemuel Bayless, Oct 19, 1882. To this union five children were born, 3 sons and two daughters, namesly, Mrs. Nora Edwards, Mrs. Everet Plunkett, George, Jesse and Walter. All are grown. Her husband preceded her to that haven of rest on Oct 25, 1898. She was the daughter of Aaron and Catharine Miles. She is survived by an aged father, one sister, two brothers, one half sister and 3 half brothers, besides her children and three grandchildren. Mrs. Bayless died at the home of her daughter near Wallace. She was afflicted for two years, but was confined to her bed recently. She has lived all of her life int his vicinity. She was not identified with any religious denomination, but during her last sickness she fully enjoyed the presence of her savoir and said she was ready and willing to go to him, ofttimes repeating in "accents low," "I'm trusting in Jesus." Thus she revealed her meditation upon that virtue which inspires the soul with the evidence of peace and pardon, and that "it was well with her soul." She will be sadly missed as only a "mother" can be, who has had the entire care of her family thrown upon her by the early death of her husband, but battled with life bravely. The day prior to her death she called her children and relatives to her bedside and bade them a last farewell. Then she sang in a low tone, "How tedious and tasteless the hours when Jesus no longer I see. Funeral services were held at Freedom Church on Sunday monring by Rev. Charles Greenfield. - kbz

Greenfield of Waveland. The choir sang, “We shall meet,” and “Gathering Home.”  Miss Pearl Reynolds sang Saved by Grace.  The pallbearers were Grant Miles, Tude Canine, Arlie Thompson, Lee Motter and Charles and Fred Rogers. The burial was conducted by Albert Hawkins of New Market. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in Freedom cemetery beside her husband. = kz
