Source: New Richmond Record 20 August 1914 p 1

Ernest Baxter, 20 years old, who had made his home for sometime with his brother, Judson Baxter, north of Sugar Grove, suffered fatal injury in a motorcycle crash seven miles southeast of Lebanon at about 3 o’clock Friday afternoon. The young man in company with two brothers, Frank Baxter of Lafayette, and John Baxter, who lives in White county, left Friday morning to ride their motorcycles through to Jefferson county to visit their mother, Mrs. Irene Baxter, and to attend the Deputy camp meeting. John Baxter was in the lead, while Frank brought up the rear, all three machines following in tandem in the track of the road, and going at a good rate of speed. The track was deep at this point, and the pedal of Ernest’s machine caught in a ridge of dirt, causing the rider to be thrown. The machine in the rear crashed into this one, the wheel striking Ernest’s head with great force, fracturing the skull. Assistance was called and the injured young man was harried to Williams hospital in Lebanon. He died in a few minutes after reaching the hospital, The result of the accident was a great shock to the boy’s family and friends. Judson Baxter with his family was also on his way to Jefferson county, driving through in his automobile.  The body was at once prepared for burial and was shipped Saturday to Deputy, Jefferson county, his old home, where the funeral occurred Sunday. Besides his mother, he leaves four brothers and three sisters. Ernest was the youngest of the brothers.
