Thomas A. Bastion died at 4:30 o’clock Monday afternoon at his home on the plank road, southeast of New Richmond, after an illness extending over a month and from a complicating of diseases of which rheumatism and gall stones were the worst.  A week ago, accompanied by his wife, he went to Martinsville in a search of health, but there Mrs. Bastion was told they could do nothing for him and she hurried home with him on Sunday and he died the next day. Tom was a well known farmer and threshing machine man, always a resident of this community, known and loved by a host of friends.  He is survived by the wife whom he married December 25, 1889 and nine children who came to this union also survive, three daughters and six sons: Eva, Elizabeth, Mary, Argo, Virgil, Carl, Milford, Edison and Lee. Two brothers and two sisters, Charles Bastion of Lafayette, Mrs. Martha Stambaugh, Garrett L. Bastion and Miss Rose Bastion of New Richmond, also survive him. The funeral occurred from his late home at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. BE Antrobus, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville. He interment was made in the New Richmond cemetery. - kbz

In the Matter of the Estate of Thomas A. Bastion, Deceased. In the Montgomery. Circuit Court, September Term, 1911 - Notice is hereby given that Martha J, Bastion, as Administratrix of the estate of Thomas A. Bastion, deceased has presented and filed her account and vouchers in final settlement of said estate, and that the same will come up for the examination and action of said Circuit Court on the 17 day of October, 1914, at which time all heirs, creditors or legatees of said estate are required to appear in said Court and show cause, if any there be, why said account and vouchers should not be approved. Charles F. Bastion came in from Great Bend, Kansas, last Wednesday to attend the funeral of his uncle, Thomas A. Bastion, remaining till Sunday for a visit with relatives. This was Charles’ first visit to the scenes of his boyhood in six years. He is married, has two children and seems to be living well. He is a traveling representative of the Continental Beatrice Creamery Co., with territory covering the greater part of Kansas and a few counties in Texas and Oklahoma.
