Linden -- Frank L. Barton, 71, retired employee of the Monon Railroad died at 7 pm. Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. Barton had been ill for two years and hospitalized 13 hours. A Linden native, he was a graduate of high school here and after his retirement from the railroad was school custodian until recently. He was an army veteran of WWI and charter member of Linden Legion Post 306 and also Byron Cox Post of Crawfordsville. Barton was a member of the old Linden Christian Church. He was born Oct 31, 1895, the son of Matthew and Martha A. Vail Barton. On May 20, 1920 he married Carrie Glover who survives. Other survivors are a son, Lester J of Huntington Beach, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Homer Stonebraker of Attica; a brother, Edward Barton of Linden; sister, Mrs. Harold Grenard, of Linden; four granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Helms Funeral Home in Linden with Rev. Willis Syphers and Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Burial in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. - kbz
