Late Wednesday afternoon Mrs. John Barry, together with her mother and five year old son, Willie, started to drive to the Catholic Cemetery. As they drove along the road near the Valley Saloon they came upon Mrs. Charles Anabel, who was at the roadside cutting ‘greens. She moved as they approached and the horse, which was trotting slowly, came to a dead standstill. So sudden was the stop that little Willie was thrown out and under the wheels. Seeing the accident and fearing that the child was hurt, Mrs. Anabel threw up both her hands. This frightened the horse still more and he began to back. In so doing he stepped on the child, inflicting terrible injuries. Willie’s skull was badly fractured, his collar bone broken and he was terribly bruised. The poor child was picked up and Drs. Ensminger and Barcus were hastily called. The child’s condition is considered very critical. He lies in a stupor and there is a great concern lest his injuries prove fatal. -s
