John C. Barnhill, 77, of 217 E. Wabash Ave., died Friday evening in Carle Memorial Hospital at Urbana, Ill. He was a retired businessman, associated with the former Crawfordsville State Bank, an Indianapolis realtor in 1922-37, returning to this city in 1940 and being associated with the J. C. Penney Co. until his retirement in 1956. A son of John C. and Ora Noland Barnhill, he was born Sept. 19, 1891. He was graduated from Crawfordsville High School and attended Wabash College, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. Mr. Barnhill was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was married in 1915 to Ruth Clements, who survives. Also surviving are five children, John A. of Menlo Park, Calif., David C. and Mrs. Phyllis Nelson of Granada Hills, Calif., Joseph F. of Running Springs, Calif., and James F. of Crawfordsville; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Poston of Lafayette. Two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Willis and Mrs. Mabel Wagner, and two brothers, Frank and Fred Barnhill, preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hunt and Son Funeral Home.
