Mrs. Marilyn E. Barnett of Crawfordsville, age 31, died early Thursday, August 27, of a gunshot wound to her head. She was injured when a gun being cleaned by her husband, Jim, discharged in the couple’s home, and was pronounced dead on arrival at Culver Hospital. She was born at Covington, December 8, 1949, the daughter of Richard and Elsie Shuff Smith. A 1967 graduate of Covington High School, she was a secretary at R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company and attended Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Surviving with her husband are her father of Alamo; a grandfather, George Smith of Ladoga; two sisters, Dorita Phelps or Crawfordsville and Katherine Eubanks of Glasgow, Kentucky; and two brothers, Richard E. Smith of Crawfordsville and Ray Lee Smith of Waynetown. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Hunt and Sons Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Rev. Dick Baker officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery at Covington. – thanks to S – so sad
