Waynetown Feb 12 -- John BARNETT, 79, one of the well known and respected residents of Wayne Township died at the family home east of this place last night of carcinoma of the bladder from which ailment he had been a long time sufferer. Mr. Barnett's last illness really dates back two years when he was attacked with a trouble that baffled the local physicians. He went to Rochester Mn to the sanitarium of the Mayo brothers and undewent an operation. Although the operation was a severe one, Mr. Barnett refused to take an anesthetic and the gameness of the aged man was a matter of comment by the physicians at the institution. His case was watched by the doctors there and Mr. Barnett made a return trip to the sanitarium and was visited by the doctors. John Barnett was born and reared in Wayne Twp and lived all of his useful life here. He married Matilda Sailsbury and to them 4 children were born: Charles died when a babe. The widow and two sons, Delswroth and Clyde and one daughter Mrs. George Switzer of Deering, ND survive. Mr. Barnett was the last of 10 chldren of Jonathan and Nancy Barnett pioneers of the township. They had come from Butler County Ohio and settled in this community. The Barnetts were English descent and forebearers of the present family came asyoung emigrants from London. The privation of one of these sturdy lads who was captured by pirates, is a precious tradition of the family. The Barnetts wielded an influence for good in whatever community their lines fell and these of Wayne were types of the sturdy stock. Uncle John Barnett was a good man, respected by all who came to know him well. The funeral service will be held this morning at union Chapel where the deceased held church membership and will be in charge of Rev. OJ McMullen. Burial in Masonic Cemetery at this place. -- kbz
