Veterans Home – Mrs. Leah W. Barnes, 82 of Indiana Veterans Home, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday in Home Hospital where she was admitted March 21. Born at Waynetown she had resided at the Veterans Home since 1938 and was employed there 30 years, retiring in 1968. In 1917 she was first married to Ruby C. Barnes who was killed in action in France during World War I. Her marriage was in 1920 to Hugh R. Barnes and he died in 1965. Mrs. Barnes was a member and past president of Indiana Department of VFW Auxiliary and member and first president of World War I Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and Veterans Home Committee of American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are a son, Warren M. Barnes of Costa Mesa, Calif; and one sister, Mrs. Nelle Cunningham of Lafayette. - kbz
