Paul K. Barcus, 704 South 26th Street, head of the Barcus Trucking Company and Barcus Orchards, Crawfordsville, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital at 7:30 o’clock Thursday morning from injuries received in an automobile accident which occurred Tuesday evening at 5 o’clock near Greencastle. A bloodcot which formed in his crushed left arm was the immediate cause of death.  His company having completed work on State Road 43 southward from Lafayette, Barcus left here in a Ford sedan Tuesday afternoon for Evansville to look after a new contract. He planned to stop in Sullivan to visit his mother and sister.  A short distance out of Greencastle his car was side-swiped by a truck and he was found badly injured at the roadside.  Although he was suffering intensely he managed to give directions to his rescuers. He asked that he be brought to Lafayette in an ambulance and that a taxicab be sent to Sullivan to bring his mother to Lafayette. He arrived at the hospital about 9 o’clock Tuesday night. The attending doctor said that had the injured man received immediate attention his life probabl would have been spared. Born near Crawfordsville March 20, 1889, he was the son of the late Paul J. Barcus for many years a Crawfordsville physician. The family and that of Dr. AC Arnett of this city were neighbors and close friends. The son was educated at Wabash College from which he was graduated. Most of his life was spent in Crawfordsville but for a year he and his family lived in Indianapolis and they moved here from that city several months ago. Mr. Barcus was well known in road-building circles. He was a WW veteran.  Besides his widow he leaves two sons, Paul Jr, 9 and Robert 7. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Sue K. Barcus of Sullivan and a sister, Gertrude Barcus, also of that city. The body was taken to the Proffitt & Son Funeral parlors at Crawfordsville and was to be returned to the family home here for the funeral services some time Saturday. - kbz
