Gilbert Banta, 56, machinist, died last night in his home, 1547 Spann. Born in Parke County, Mr. Banta had lived here 38 years. Since that time he worked as machinist for the EC Atkins Co. Mr. Banta was a musician. For a number of years he had his own orchestra, in which he played saxophone, and played for local dances. He was a member of the Pioneer Club of the Atkins Co. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Shirley Brothers Irvin Hill Chapel with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Survivors are the widow, Dorothy Banta; a stepson, Glenn W. Shaw; two sisters, Maude Clore, Marshall and Lulu Smith, Waveland; a brother, Carl Banta, Vancouver, British Columbia. – kbz
