Hillsboro, Nov 13 -- A very sad incident has occurred in this community in the death of three members of one family and two others are at the point of death, all victims of influenza. Mrs. Milton [Mirtie B.] Bacon died Sunday night and Tuesday afternoon and infant daughter, Mary Louise, died and the husband [Milton C.] and father passed away Tuesday evening about 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Bacon was thought to be recovering from the disease but after the death of his wife pneumonia developed which caused his death. He was 30 years of age and the infant daughter was 7 months old. Plans had been made to take the body of Mrs. Bacon to KY but owing to the serious condition of the other members of the family the burial was postponed and arrangements have been made for the interment in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown Wednesday afternoon when the 3 bodies will be buried in one grave. Four small children survive, two of whom are in critical condition and grave hopes are entertained for their recovery. The family moved here from KY about two years ago and resided on a farm south of town.

Hillsboro, Nov 12 - Mrs. Milton Bacon died at her home south of here Sunday night about 11 o'clock, following a ten days' illness of influenza. The entire family, the parents and five little children have been ill with the disease and the death of two of the children is expected at any time. Mrs. Bacon was 29 years old and was born and reared in Kentucky, where she lived until two years ago when they moved to this community and were residing on the Hyson Myer farm at the time of her death. Besides her husband and 5 small children she leaves 4 brothers and two sisters, Will, Arthur and George Birge of this place, James Birge of Kentucky and Mrs. Maggie Ford and Mrs. Lola Hodges both residing in Kentucky. Arrangements have not been completed for the funeral service but it is reported that the body will be taken to her former home in Kentucky for burial.

Note: According to the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery page (thank you so much Proctors for this awesome feat) -- Milton, Mirtie Birge Bacon & their infant daughter, Mary Louise are all buried in Division 4, 145 1,2 in the same grave.

The Spanish influenza seems to have just reached its highest point at Mellott where there were 3 funerals Friday. The epidemic reached such a stage that Dr. Hurty, Sec of the State Bd of Health was sent for and Friday put on the ban. There are a number of serious cases. It is also said that the epidemic is on the increase at Veedersburg. New cases in Wiliamsport caused the closing of the schools on Thursday. At Hillsboro the closing order has again gone into effect. They had a pitiable case there in the death of four members in one family. On Sunday night Mrs. Milton Bacon died of the disease on Tuesday night a daughter, Mary Louise died and the husband passed away on Tuesday. The three bodies were buried in one grave. Of the family four small children remained who were taken care of by Jewell Tinsely at the Hillsboro Hotel. One of these died with the disease Friday morning. Another child is seriously ill and may not recover. The Bacon family moved to Cain Twp from Ky about 1 years ago and resided on a farm south of Hillsboro.
