Mellott -- Mrs. Elizabeth Babb 75, who lived alone, was found dead at her home here Wednesday morning after she failed to answer a telephone call from a relative. When the telephone went unanswered, a call was made to a neighbor, Mrs. Orpha McAlister, who found the house locked and Tuesday afternoon's newspaper on her porch. Mrs. McAlister in turn called Vernon Ray Babb, son of the dead woman from her home near here. When the son arrived, he broke open the door and found his mother lying on the living room floor, her head propped up on pillows. Cause of death was not immediately determined but was believed due to heart disease. Coroner Ralph Nelson ruled out the possibility of foul play. Born on a farm southeast of Mellott on Feb 22, 1889, Mrs. Babb was the daughter of John and Rebecca Short Stephens. She was married to Vernon Babb who died here in 1937. Mrs. Babb was a member of the new Antioch Christian Church. The survivors include the son, Vernon Ray Babb; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Morse of Orlando, Fl; and Mrs. Martha Sharkey of Chicago Heights, Ill; and a grandson who she reared, Russell Wayne Babb of Wheaton, Ill. The body was taken to Crumley Funeral Home.- kbz
