Darlington - Fred Earl Barley, 73 a farmer in the Garfield community most of his life, died Wednesday night at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville. He underwent major surgery Tuesday after having been ill since July. Born NOv 28, 1878, at the old Barley home in Garfield, Mr. Barley was the son of Peter A. and Ellen Clark Barley. He married Glena Pickrell of Garfield Sept 29, 1909. Mr. Barley was a member of the Darlington Maosnic Lodge and IOOF. He retired from farming two years ago and had made his home in Darlington since. Surviving are the widow, two sisters, Miss Mae Barley and Mrs. Carl Clark, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Glen H. Barley, Garfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and Roy Barley. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday from the Smith Funeral Home, Darlington. Burial will be at the Darlington IOOF Cemetery, Rev. Ernest Treber of the Congregational Christian Church will officiate. Maonic rites at the graveside. - kbz
